NHS Smoking Cessation Service (SCS) and PharmOutcomes

The Royal Oldham hospital and Royal Bolton hospital are both actively referring patients to community pharmacy to continue their quit attempt post discharge from hospital using an interim local version of PharmOutcomes for the NHS SCS.

Further to recent communications sent on 11th November (attached) we are now transitioning all referrals from the Royal Oldham and Royal Bolton hospitals onto the new national version of PharmOutcomes.

The reason for this transition, is that PharmOutcomes have confirmed this week that the automated service claims to MYS are now live and we want to ensure that claiming for fees is as simple as possible for pharmacies in GM.

Receiving referrals:

  1. From MONDAY 12th DECEMBER the CURE teams at Bolton and Oldham will send all new referrals using the national templates, you will receive these referrals into PharmOutcomes in the same way you do now, however the template you complete with the patient at registration may look slightly different, and will not include ‘GM’ in the title
  2. Subsequent visits for patients referred on or after MONDAY 12th DECEMBER will be recorded in the linked SCS national templates which may look slightly different, and will not include ‘GM’ in the title
  3. Any patients you are currently supporting through their 12-week programme who were referred to you before MONDAY 12th DECEMBER will continue to have their sessions and supplies recorded in the local PharmOutcomes templates, which are all named with ‘GM’ at the beginning of the service or template title

Claiming fees:

  1. All activity entered into the national PharmOutcomes templates, for patients referred on or after MONDAY 12th DECEMBER will result in an automated claim being sent via PharmOutcomes to the BSA – NO ACTION for the pharmacy
  2. All activity entered into the local GM PharmOutcomes templates, needs a MANUAL CLAIM to be submitted to the BSA:
    1. Run a report from PharmOutcomes to summarise the activity
    2. Manually complete the claim form attached, which can also be found on the NHS BSA website along with other information about the service: NHS Smoking Cessation Service – Referral from Secondary Care into Community Pharmacy | NHSBSA
    3. Email the form to nhsbsa.mys@nhs.net  each month by the 5th of the month.
