Active Ageing

Active Ageing is a new programme and campaign aimed at helping individuals aged 55+ who have experienced a significant life event by supporting them to become more physically active as part of a healthy lifestyle. They are looking to work more closely with Pharmacies to engage with patients who could benefit from access to this programme. For more information view this letter for Pharmacies or contact Ross.mcguigan@lifeleisure.net.

Nutrition & hydration pilot

Pharmacy teams can get resources to help improve nutrition and hydration in older and vulnerable people in Stockport, as part of a new pilot in some areas of Greater Manchester. The resources available include staff training/education, information booklets for patients/customers, and paper armbands that help identify people who may be at risk due to low BMI. Pharmacies may also find this visual checklist helpful. For more information, contact your local project lead: Siobhan McKenna, 07764 734746, smckenna@ageuksalford.org.uk.

Switch from Paracetamol to Mandanol (April 2018)

Stockport CCG has taken the decision to change all prescriptions for Paracetamol tablets to the brand name “Mandanol tablets”. Note this may be listed as Mandanol capsule-shaped tablets on some ordering systems. This change will be phased in over the next few months. Practice pharmacists/technicians/medicines co-ordinators working together with the practices will help to ensure that you are not left with stocks of Paracetamol that you cannot use. Practices have been asked to work with their local pharmacies. If any have already changed to Mandanol before you have used up your stocks of Paracetamol, please contact your medicines co-ordinator or practice CCG pharmacist who will temporarily change prescriptions back to Paracetamol to ensure that current stocks are used up. If you have any difficulties with stocks, please advise the LPC who will talk to the medicines optimisation team at the CCG on your behalf. Thank you all for your help in this change over.

Entresto

Novartis have asked hospitals to give out the attached flyer each time they prescribe Entresto. This is to ensure patients do not run out of medication and will help if you are unable to obtain Entresto from your usual supplier.
