Read the annual flu letter for 2024/25

The Department of Health and Social Care, the UK Health Security Agency and NHS England have jointly published the national flu vaccination programme letter for the 2024/25 season.

There are no changes to the eligible cohorts for the 2024/25 season.

This letter now includes an amendment in response to the news that the Sanofi recombinant quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIVr) will not be available for the 2024/25 flu programme.

However, from 1st September 2024, pharmacies will only be able to vaccinate pregnant women.

Then from 3rd October 2024, vaccination of the other adult cohorts will commence.

PGD (Patient Group Direction) – This will enable pharmacy technicians to provide flu vaccinations this coming season.

Promoting the service

Communicating with patients about the later start to the programme

Pharmacy teams will want to explain to their patients about the later start to the programme and why this change has been made by NHS England. We have developed a poster to communicate these messages for use in pharmacies.
