3,200+ Contraception Service Continuation Consultations in February 2026

The Pharmacy Contraception Service has seen a significant increase in continuation consultations across Greater Manchester over the last 12 months, with activity rising from 1,790 consultations in February 2025 to 3,252 in February 2026 – an increase of 82%.

Growth was seen across all Greater Manchester localities, reflecting increased engagement with services and improved access to ongoing contraception.

The largest percentage increases were seen in Tameside (+135%), Trafford (+135%), Bury (+128%), Wigan (+124%) and Stockport (+117%), all of which more than doubled their continuation activity compared with the previous year. Manchester delivered the highest number of continuation consultations overall, increasing from 412 to 624 consultations.

Looking Ahead

While this growth is a fantastic achievement, there remains a significant opportunity to further expand the service across Greater Manchester. Increasing referrals from GP practices remains a key ambition and will help ensure even more residents can benefit from accessing contraception through their local community pharmacy.

The 3,252 continuation consultations delivered in February 2026 equate to up to 800 hours of GP practice time released and over £81,000 in consultation fees for community pharmacy in a single month.

With 585 pharmacies registered to provide the service across Greater Manchester, the “One More” message remains as important as ever. If every pharmacy delivered just one additional continuation consultation each week, this would result in over 30,000 extra consultations per year, generating more than £760,000 in additional funding for community pharmacy while further supporting primary care capacity.
