Community pharmacy services

Pharmacy services fall into three categories, which are commissioned differently. The NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework sets out the arrangements and criteria.

Essential services – all contractors provide these under the NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF). They are commissioned by NHS England and include general advice and dispensing of prescriptions.

Advanced Services – these are services within CPCF that pharmacies can provide if they meet the requirements set out by the Health Secretary. They are funded by NHS England.

Locally-commissioned enhanced services – these are services that may be commissioned by ICPs or local authorities, depending on local need and priorities, rather than on a national level.

NOTE: If you would like information/advice about how to get commissioned to provide an advanced or local enhanced service, contact us on 0161 228 6163 or via enquiries@gmlpc.org.uk
